they said too much thinking
could cause it.
they said they could tell from
the way she slept.
or didn't.
it was the lingering on things
the way her neck strained too long,
in consideration of one thing,
in watching
something stuck--
growing in a blob on the back
of her neck.
something on which
she could never focus her eyes.
